… The week has been pretty overwhelming, a mixed bag of emotions, evading candidates, vintage dreams, family fiestas and a vague instinct to what lies ahead …
But most of all, TIME : leaving you no time to focus on your agenda… phew!
I was glad to discover my aversion to social media was shared aptly through this article, an excerpt as under:
“Missing the internet of yesteryear, pre-Facebook, pre-Twitter, pre-Instagram : pre social media. If I want to continue publishing, I don’t see how I can NOT be on social media — how else will people find my work? What’s the metric, then, of how to remain relevant?
I wanted all these answers to be not social media; I wanted to find the therefore, do this antidote to the social media machine. But I couldn’t find it. And so, even though I was convinced that social media does more harm than good, I felt resigned to keep using it. I couldn’t figure out how not to. Solutions maybe to: not completely swear off social media, use it for the things that add value to your life, and set up parameters so it doesn’t take over your attention and energy. If my life is unconventional, that doesn’t mean everybody has to live my way, and I certainly don’t want that to be the unintentional message. Just need to remember what I enjoy doing in the first place.”
And while I was at it, this whole #JUSTICEFORASIFA propaganda started flashing up on FB, Insta and WhatsApp. My “off-social media” slogan boomeranged into what could not be possible pre-FB, pre-insta, pre-whatever: Online Democracy.
You can hear the rage through every social medium of every Indian urging the law to confiscate the culprits, shaming them, slamming them right on their sic faces, atleast virtually. I hope this wave doesn’t die out slowly, considering the lengthy court cases which could go on for years. I hope it ends only when these perpetrators are sentenced to languish for their remaining pathetic lives behind bars.
Couple of years back, when a scene depicting houses getting ruined in fire, surfaced on TV, my younger toddler asked “Why is Allah not saving them?” …my decades of wisdom (?) went for a toss… as I was clueless as well… to all the WHY’s…. specially today:
Why does Syria burn?
Why are innocent lives taken, when the masterminds are somewhere else?
Why do clippings of children taking refuge in underground shelters while their homes are destroyed above them, fail to make any difference to the ones who have the power to prevent it in the first place?
Why don’t we have a response to this kid calling out to the reporter covering the strife there “we are not terrorists, why is this happening to us?”
Why …. and why ? ☹
How to be an Egyptian ... Ancient History
IN 13 EASY STEPS ....interesting read for kids who are interested in HISTORY:
This small book by Scoular Anderson, is commendable in the way it has encapsulated the entire Ancient Egyptian era from how it originated to their way of living, dressing, food, etc. into beautiful illustrations and through simple language that has captured the fascination even of a history fanatic adult (ahem ?). I especially was intrigued by the page which depicted the making of the pyramid. Just a week ago my elder kiddo had to work up a chart on the same topic and Google Aunty took us to a couple of sites to help us consolidate the data onto 2 sheets. Feeling rather stupid now, having seen how the same’s been illustrated through precision across a small measure of paper!
Getting back to the anti-Social Media thingy, seems like Facebook’s getting back at me for it, by routing a major chunk of traffic here……
Awwww… THANK YOU guys ! Now, sign up already! Don’t be shy ?
